Bolt Action has been revealed as a digital adaptation of Warlord Games’ World War II tabletop miniatures rules, according to Rock Paper Shotgun. The historical strategy sim transfers many of the tabletop’s tactical concerns to virtual battlefields, asking players to manage morale, line-of-sight and cover while manoeuvring US, British and German forces across environments that range from beaches to churchyards.

The conversion preserves several hallmark mechanics from the hobby game. Indirect fire and artillery features appear in the digital ruleset, while armour facings and damage modelling affect how vehicle engagements play out. Overwatch and similar reactive abilities translate the tabletop’s emphasis on positioning and timing into the computer version’s encounters.

Rock Paper Shotgun notes that the title includes multiplayer functionality, enabling players to contest one another with themed forces drawn from the period. The adaptation aims to capture the ebb and flow of small-unit combat and the catalogue of tactical trade-offs familiar to wargamers, from suppression and morale checks to concealment and firing arcs.

Warlord Games, founded by former Games Workshop staffers John Stallard and Paul Sawyer, supplied the source material for the project. The digital Bolt Action emphasises the tabletop’s historical lens, presenting scenarios and maps that mirror the varied terrain of the Western Front and other theatres.

A trailer accompanied the announcement, showcasing the game’s combat mechanics and map variety. Details about platforms, release timing and pricing were not included in the report and will require follow-up reporting as the project progresses.

Rock Paper Shotgun is the primary source for the reveal and further coverage of the adaptation and its mechanics can be expected as additional information becomes available.
