Nintendo has issued an official statement explaining why the 'Visual Censorship' toggle in superhero comedy Dispatch is not available on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of the game.
The game launched on both Switch platforms this week. As noted in our review, the Visual Censorship toggle that appears on other platforms was absent from the Nintendo releases, meaning the censored presentation is active by default with no in-game option to switch it off.
AdHoc Studio, Dispatch's developer, previously acknowledged the difference and said it was engaging with platform partners to clarify the situation. Following that response, Nintendo contacted XPLog with a formal explanation.
'When Dispatch was submitted for certification on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 we worked with the publisher and developer to ensure the title complied with our platform requirements and content guidelines,' Nintendo told XPLog. 'As part of that process the Visual Censorship toggle was removed for the Nintendo versions. This action ensures consistency with regional age-rating decisions and the safety features of our systems. We are continuing to discuss options with the developer for possible updates in future.'
Nintendo's statement frames the change as a platform compliance and ratings-related decision rather than a unilateral editorial edit. The company also emphasised that it remains in dialogue with the developer about potential future changes.
AdHoc Studio's earlier response — summarised by the developer on social media and in messages to press — indicated it preferred to ship parity across platforms but that platform-holder policies and certification requirements can force platform-specific adjustments. The studio said it was exploring whether a post-launch update could restore the toggle on Switch hardware, but cautioned that any change would need to pass Nintendo's approval process and align with ratings board determinations.
The removal has provoked a mixed reaction among players. Some understand platform holders enforcing their policies and the influence of regional age-rating boards, while others have criticised the lack of an opt-out for adult players who want the uncensored content.
For now, Switch and Switch 2 owners who want the uncensored presentation will need to play on platforms where the toggle remains available. We'll update this story if Nintendo or AdHoc Studio announce any change or a confirmed timetable for a patch.
