Capcom is set to release Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a new installment in the samurai action series after a 20-year hiatus. The game's protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, will be modeled after the late Japanese actor Toshirō Mifune, known for his iconic roles in Akira Kurosawa films and other classic samurai movies.

The decision to use Mifune's likeness was made from the outset, according to the game's director, Satoru Nihei. This deliberate design choice aims to capture the essence of a classic samurai image, with Mifune being the first name that came to mind for the role.

  • Mifune famously portrayed the historic Miyamoto Musashi in various films, making him an ideal choice for the game's protagonist.
  • Capcom avoided using generative AI for the character's creation, instead opting for a more traditional approach to honor Mifune's legacy.
  • The game's director, Satoru Nihei, approached the producer with the idea of using Mifune's likeness, which was well-received and implemented in the game's development.
