After a 20-year hiatus, the Onimusha series is finally returning with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release this September. In a recent visit to Capcom's Osaka headquarters, the development team shared insights into the game's connection to its predecessors, revealing that while there are no direct narrative links, the game is filled with homages to the original series.

Director Satoru Nihei explained that the team aimed to incorporate elements from older games to provide a sense of familiarity for fans. This is evident in the design of certain enemies, such as the Chijiko, which bears a striking resemblance to the Reynaldo Genma from Onimusha: Warlords.
