Sega's legendary arcade driving franchise is officially returning. Crazy Taxi: World Tour promises a global campaign, multiplayer modes, and the return of The Offspring, alongside a controversial AI disclosure.
It has been a long hiatus since the PSP days, but Sega is finally putting us back behind the wheel. Officially unveiled during the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, Crazy Taxi: World Tour is bringing the franchise’s signature high-octane, fare-chasing chaos to modern hardware.
Original creator Kenji Kanno is leading the charge on this revival, aiming to blend the nostalgic thrills of the Dreamcast era with a modernized, global scope. And yes, to answer the most important question right away: punk rock legends The Offspring are officially back on the soundtrack.
A Globetrotting Campaign
Leaving the familiar, sun-drenched hills of the original games behind, World Tour is expanding its horizons with a fully-fledged, story-driven campaign. Players will step back into the shoes of series veteran Axel, who is on a global mission to recover his stolen taxi from an international ring of car thieves.
The fast-paced driving action is split across five dynamic cities worldwide. As you burn rubber through these new maps, you will encounter a fresh cast of characters, take on bizarre side missions, and complete extreme challenges to rack up that essential "CRAZY money."
Arcade Roots & New Features
While the campaign adds a new layer of depth, Sega is ensuring the core gameplay loop remains intact for purists:
Arcade Mode: A completely faithful recreation of the pulse-pounding, race-against-the-clock arcade format that defined the original releases.
Deep Customization: A new "Play Your Way" progression system allows players to unlock a massive roster of vehicles and tweak them with extensive customization options.
Multiplayer Madness: For the first time in a mainline entry, Crazy Taxi is getting competitive. Players can drift and jump against friends or jump into action-packed online multiplayer modes across different platforms.
The AI Disclosure
The reveal has not been without its share of industry debate. Shortly after the showcase wrapped, keen-eyed fans spotted a generative AI disclosure on the game’s Steam store page.
Sega has clarified that generative AI is being implemented strictly as a "support tool for developers" to streamline workflows and free up the team for creative tasks, explicitly noting that it is not being used to replace human performers or voice actors. Even with the clarification, the disclosure has sparked the usual skepticism online, highlighting the ongoing tension surrounding AI integration in game development.
Release Window & Platforms
Crazy Taxi: World Tour is currently locked in for a 2027 release window.
Whether you are looking to add it to your Xbox or Steam libraries, or planning to take it on the go, the game will be launching across a wide array of systems: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), and the Nintendo Switch 2.
