If you’ve been gaming long enough to remember the hulking plastic shell of the original Xbox and the legendary "Duke" controller, Microsoft just delivered a massive hit of nostalgia. At the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox dropped the curtain on the Xbox 25th Anniversary Collection — and it is draped in beautiful, translucent "OG Green."

Here is the breakdown of the newly announced hardware hitting shelves later this year.

The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition Console

Microsoft is finally bringing the highly requested translucent design to the Series X. Designed as a massive tribute to the console that started it all 25 years ago, the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition marries current-gen power with heavy retro aesthetics.

The Look: A completely translucent "OG Green" chassis, letting you peek at the internals.

Nostalgic Details: The iconic power button features a green light-up "X" (a direct nod to the original 2001 startup sequence), accompanied by a custom 25th-anniversary logo on the front.

The Specs: Under the hood, it’s the Series X powerhouse we know, complete with 1TB of storage.

Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition

A retro console needs a matching pad. The X25 Special Edition Controller goes deep on the callbacks, managing to cram decades of Xbox history into the modern controller silhouette.

Classic Colors: It features the translucent green shell, but brings back the vibrant, classic colors for the ABXY face buttons.

A Nod to the Duke: In a brilliant design touch, the bumpers are styled to honor the infamous black and white face buttons from the original Duke controller.

Transparent Backing: The back case and battery door are totally clear, showing off the classic Xbox logo stamped inside.

Release Window and Pricing

According to Jason Ronald, VP Next Generation, both the console and the controller will be bundled together in select markets this November. If you just want to upgrade your controller lineup, the X25 Special Edition controller will also be available as a standalone purchase.

Microsoft is keeping the exact pricing and pre-order dates under wraps for now, but expect retailers to open up pages soon. Given the massive appeal of translucent retro tech, this collection is almost guaranteed to fly off the shelves the second it goes live.
