Hello Games has launched The Swarm, a free update for No Man's Sky that transforms parts of the galaxy into an unfolding, cooperative war zone. The update introduces a colossal mechanical eye that arrives with swarms of killer drones, forcing players to join organised efforts to repel the invasion.
The new mode encourages coordination by splitting participants into three factions who must work together in ship-to-ship engagements and objective-driven encounters. Battles take place across systems and can culminate in confrontations with the giant robo‑eye, which wields a station‑scorching laser capable of devastating structures and installations.
The Swarm shifts focus from the game's quieter exploration and discovery elements toward large-scale cooperative combat and emergent multiplayer events. The feature set emphasises shared objectives, joint fleet actions and high-stakes defensive operations that require players to pool resources and firepower.
No Man's Sky's cross-platform infrastructure means the update is available to players on PC, PlayStation and Xbox platforms, allowing mixed-platform forces to coordinate their responses. The live rollout puts the new content into the hands of the community immediately, adding a fresh, warlike flavour to the game's ongoing evolution.
