Square Enix has revealed a new subtitle for Dragon Quest XII following a complete redevelopment of the project. Yosuke Saito and series creator Yuji Horii confirmed that development was reset after multiple hurdles, and the game will now carry the title Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams.

The new subtitle replaces the previously announced Flames of Fate, which had been presented with a darker, more oppressive logo during earlier promotion. The change signals a significant alteration in the game's presentation and positioning after the restart.
