Nintendo has sold through 19.86 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles in its first fiscal year, the company revealed in its Fiscal Year 2026 report.

Despite the strong launch performance, Nintendo is forecasting 16.5 million unit sales for the fiscal year ending March 2027, a decline on a year‑over‑year basis.

The company noted that "for our hardware systems to date, sales units have generally tended to be higher in the second fiscal year after launch than in the launch year." Nintendo said Switch 2 "launched at a time when many consumers were continuing to enjoy Nintendo Switch," and that "against this backdrop and amid many other factors, launch‑year sales reached a level we had not seen with any of our previous hardware systems."

Addressing the expected drop, Nintendo added: "In light of strong sales performance in the first year following launch and price adjustments, we expect unit sales for the fiscal year ending March 2027 to decline year over year. That said, we view this as a healthy level of sales for Nintendo Switch 2 in its second year after launch, and we continue to anticipate further growth in the installed base."

The Switch 2 is currently outpacing the original Nintendo Switch in comparable post‑launch periods, having exceeded the fiscal‑year sales recorded in the Switch's March 2018 and March 2019 reporting periods.

An editorial note accompanying the financial materials pointed to broader market pressures, including rising memory costs linked to global AI demand and tariffs, as factors present around the launch window.

Nintendo's figures underline a strong first year for Switch 2 while signalling a return to more typical second‑year hardware sales, with the company continuing to position growth in installed base as the key metric going forward.
