Trilobyte's cult-classic CD-ROM adventure The 7th Guest will be revived on 4 June, arriving on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version promised for release at a later date.
Originally launched in the early 1990s, The 7th Guest became a hallmark of the CD-ROM era thanks to its full-motion video, atmospheric mansion setting and fiendish puzzles. The new release is billed as a "remake of sorts", signalling a blend of faithful restoration and modern updates intended to introduce the game to contemporary audiences while retaining the original's eerie tone.
The game centres on the malevolent toymaker Henry Stauf and his invitation to a group of unwitting visitors to his isolated mansion. Players navigate the house, solve logic-based puzzles and uncover the backstory that ties the guests to Stauf's dark past.
Further details about the scope of the remake, including any enhancements to graphics, sound or puzzle design, remain limited ahead of launch. The Switch edition has been confirmed but is listed only as arriving "later", with the Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC editions set to release simultaneously on 4 June.
The revival of The 7th Guest represents another instance of 1990s interactive horror being repackaged for modern platforms, reflecting sustained interest in retro titles that shaped early CD-ROM gaming.
