Ubisoft has formally announced Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, a full remake of the pirate-era entry rebuilt for PlayStation 5. The studio confirmed the game after months of rumours and leaks, setting a release date of 9 July 2026 and a price of $60 (approximately £49).
The Resynced edition aims to remain 'faithful' to the original story and protagonist, Edward Kenway, while being "totally rebuilt from the ground up with the latest version of the Anvil Engine" and "enriched with lots of new additions", according to the announcement. The project preserves the core narrative of the 2013 title but elevates presentation and systems to modern standards.
Key improvements highlighted by Ubisoft include expanded story content, overhauled combat, and enhanced ship sailing mechanics designed to make naval encounters and exploration feel more immediate. The remake is described as raising immersion and realism, leveraging the PS5's capabilities to update visuals and world detail.
Black Flag originally launched on PS3 and PS4 in 2013 and has remained one of the franchise's most celebrated entries, noted for its open-world pirate sandbox and naval gameplay. Resynced seeks to bring that experience to a contemporary audience while keeping Edward Kenway's tale intact.
The announcement follows extensive coverage from outlets tracking leaks and internal listings. Further details, including edition breakdowns, platform coverage beyond PS5 and any UK-specific retail options or pre-order windows, are expected from Ubisoft ahead of the July release.
