Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will not include the Freedom Cry downloadable content, telling media the omission was a "clear choice" intended to keep the focus on Edward Kenway's adventure. The Resynced edition is scheduled for release on 9 July.

Freedom Cry, originally issued in 2013 as a standalone expansion for Black Flag, centres on Adewale, a former slave who becomes a pirate and ally to the main narrative. Ubisoft's decision means Adewale's separate tale will not be bundled into the Resynced package.

Rock Paper Shotgun reported on the Resynced build and the various visual and audio tweaks made to the original pirate-era title. That coverage prompted queries about what would and would not be carried over into the new edition; Ubisoft characterised the exclusion of Freedom Cry as a deliberate decision to streamline the release around Edward Kenway's storyline.

The announcement has generated discussion among players and preservation-focused commentators, some of whom regard Freedom Cry as an important companion piece that addresses themes of slavery and emancipation within the Black Flag setting.
