Developer Ludogram Games has announced Ascenders: Beyond the Peak, a turn‑based mountain‑climbing adventure that fuses roguelite progression with Lovecraftian horror. The studio, known for Monsters Are Coming: Rock & Roll and Firebird, confirmed a Steam Early Access launch scheduled for Q3 2026.

Ascenders places players in command of a tethered team of climbers who must be guided across short, tactical climbs. Team composition and class selection are central to success: Highlanders can shove threats off cliffs, Scouts use grappling hooks to reposition, and Sappers deploy explosives and firearms. Climbs are designed as compact, puzzle‑like encounters that emphasise positioning, resource management and cooperation.

The mountain itself presents environmental hazards such as ice sheets, unstable rock and thorny bramble that drain the team’s endurance. Individual climbers can be incapacitated or lost during ascents, forcing harsh choices. At times progress will demand sacrifice, including cutting a teammate loose to save the expedition at the cost of that climber’s resources and survival.

Progression follows a roguelite branching path, with each waypoint representing a section of the climb and potential detours. Reaching the summit yields artifacts from a lost civilisation. Those relics can be spent to upgrade the expedition camp, traded with factions encountered during the campaign, or used to influence subsequent climbs — though specific in‑run effects have not been fully detailed.

The narrative is choice‑driven, asking players to select which mountains to tackle and which factions to align with, with multiple endings determined by those decisions. Steam Early Access arrival in Q3 2026 positions Ascenders as a tactical, story‑led roguelite for PC audiences interested in high‑risk exploration with a cosmic horror edge.
