Sony has announced price increases for its PlayStation hardware line-up, confirming new retail prices for the PS5, PS5 Pro and Portal that take effect in the UK from 2 April.
The company said the base PlayStation 5 will rise by around £90 in the UK as part of the adjustment. Price rises for the PS5 Pro and the Portal smart device were also confirmed, with Sony attributing the changes to what it described as "continued pressures in the global economic landscape".
In a statement accompanying the announcement Sony said the decision was taken "after careful evaluation" of market conditions. The company pointed to broader economic pressures as the rationale for altering recommended retail prices for its hardware.
Retailers are expected to reflect Sony's revised recommended prices from the stated effective date. The move will raise the cost of new PlayStation hardware purchases across official channels and most UK retailers.
The announcement, first reported by Eurogamer, represents the latest pricing shift in the console market as manufacturers contend with fluctuating exchange rates, component costs and other macroeconomic factors.
