Devolver Digital used the Xbox Partner Preview showcase to announce Serious Sam: Shatterverse, bringing the long-running shooter series back to Xbox in a distinctly different form.
Shatterverse is described as "a multiversal multiplayer FPS based on the adventures of boomer shooter legend Sam ‘Serious’ Stone" and marks a notable departure in both tone and development partnership for the franchise.
The game is being developed by Behaviour Interactive, the studio best known for Dead by Daylight. Behaviour's involvement represents a surprising turn for the franchise, pairing Serious Sam's over-the-top shooter pedigree with a team experienced in a very different multiplayer space.
The reveal suggests a new emphasis on multiplayer and multiversal mechanics rather than a straight sequel to past entries. Further details, including platforms beyond Xbox, release timing and gameplay specifics, remain to be confirmed.
