GSC Game World officially announced the first expansion for Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl during Microsoft's Xbox Partner Preview showcase. The expansion, titled "Cost of Hope", returns players to the power plant that served as the cornerstone location for the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. titles.

The reveal trailer shown at the showcase revisits the industrial, irradiated interiors and familiar, claustrophobic corridors of the plant, while teasing fresh missions, new adversaries and additional gear for players to discover. The developer had teased an announcement ahead of the event, but an expansion was not widely expected.
