Customers are only now getting their Tomb Raider collector’s editions, after more than a year wait, but they’re not happy with some of the contents.
Back when a physical version of the digital-only Tomb Raider I-III Remastered was announced, developers Crystal Dynamics and Aspyr revealed they had partnered with Limited Run Games on a special collector’s edition.
It includes not just a copy of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered but also a bunch of exclusive physical goodies, including three polygonal figures of Lara Croft designed to resemble her original in-game models.
Pre-orders went live in May 2024 and it’s only now that copies are being shipped to customers. Unfortunately for Limited Run Games, it seems all anyone can talk about is how bad the figures are.
This is the first time in-person photos of the figures have been shown, outside of promotional images, and fans have given them a complete drubbing online.
‘It couldn’t be a more simple Lara to replicate and yet it looks like this? I’m dumbfounded,’ reads one of many scathing responses to an X post by Limited Run Games showing the figures off.
The most common complaint is that fans don’t think these are at all accurate to the original in-game models, particularly the faces, with one fan mockingly describing them as ‘Temu Raider.’
‘I’m so disappointed the figures look so cross-eyed. You guys had one job,’ reads another comment, while one customer expresses relief that they had already cancelled their pre-order.
We were supposed to have classic figures from I-III, but the final effect looked like a polygon outfit from TR Anniversary xDDD disgusting pic.twitter.com/TWT19hi5HJ

Things are no better on the Tomb Raider subreddit, where someone shared a photo of one of the figures after receiving the collector’s edition. One fan says the figure ‘looks like the cursed ‘Classic’ outfit unlock from [Tomb Raider] Anniversary.’
‘This is so disappointing. You can tell they’re the proper in-game faces in the promo photo so what happened between then and now?’ questions another.
If you ask us, we don’t think the figures are that bad, apart from the faces. Polygonal Tomb Raider figures are honestly a really smart idea, but our biggest issue is that the figures don’t seem to be posable, leaving Lara stuck in a very static and unnatural pose.
There’s no mention of them being posable on Limited Run Games’ store listing and if they were, you’d think the company would display them in a more dynamic way in their marketing.
Close-ups also suggest the material isn’t particularly great either. They almost look like they’re made out of wood (one fan goes as far as to compare them to folding paper) though some suspect the figures were 3D printed.
Regardless, they’re not exactly of the highest quality, which combined with the price of the collector’s edition is going to tick people off. The set is sold out but was priced at $199.99, which is about £153 and that’s before additional shipping fees.
The collector’s edition does also include replicas of Lara’s iconic pistols, three posters, a collection of trading cards, a SteelBook, a physical soundtrack, and a map book.
