Crystal Dynamics has confirmed a fourth round of layoffs in 12 months, with 20 staff affected across development and central operations roles. The studio described the moves as necessary while stressing ongoing commitment to its Tomb Raider projects.

In a statement, Crystal Dynamics said "departures are necessary" and reiterated that it remains "fully committed" to both Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis.

The latest round follows multiple previous reductions. In March last year the studio let go 17 staff, an unspecified number were cut in August, and "just under 30" were dismissed in November.

Crystal Dynamics characterised the changes as part of wider adjustments to the organisation. The studio emphasised that development on the reboot and its sequel continues, and that the teams remain focused on delivering both projects.
