The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen will launch on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 as download-exclusive titles on 27 February, coinciding with Pokémon Day. Both remakes are priced at $19.99 each (around £16) and will be available only via digital download at launch.
The titles are adapted from the original Game Boy Advance releases and are being issued to mark the franchise's 30th anniversary. Both versions are playable on Nintendo's current and next-generation hardware.
The releases will go live following the conclusion of a Pokémon Presents presentation scheduled for 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET (14:00 GMT) on 27 February. An announcement trailer and additional images have been shared alongside the early reveal.
"Originally launched on the Game Boy Advance system in 2004, Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version will be coming to the Nintendo Switch system as download-exclusive titles to celebrate 30 years of Pokémon," the press release reads. "These titles will be available to play after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents presentation and can be played on both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems."
The decision to issue a standalone digital release means there is no physical edition confirmed at this time. The early announcement came ahead of the scheduled Pokémon Presents showcase rather than as a surprise drop during the broadcast.
