Project Windless was revealed during PlayStation's latest State of Play and immediately drew strong reactions for its audacious scope and visual ambition. The game is a current-generation open world RPG in development for the PlayStation 5.
The reveal trailer showcased gigantic battlefields and large-scale combat that evokes the spectacle of Dynasty Warriors, but framed within an open-world structure. Combat appears heavily melee-focused, with crushing, close-quarters encounters unfolding across vast environments.
Players will control a giant bird-man protagonist, an unusual and striking lead that set the trailer apart. The combination of sweeping battlefield encounters and an avian hero creates a distinctive aesthetic not often seen in mainstream RPG reveals.
Project Windless remains in development and details such as release date, developer commentary and deeper gameplay mechanics have yet to be confirmed. The initial footage, however, positions the title as one of the more surprising and ambitious PS5 projects shown this year.
