Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is finally being ported out of the PlayStation 3 era as part of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, announced during PlayStation State of Play. The collection reunites 2008's Guns of the Patriots with 2010's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, the PSP entry set during the Big Boss era.

The Vol. 2 package ships with several supplementary materials. Both Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker include screenplay books and a Master book, while Metal Gear Solid 4 also carries the series' database. A digital soundtrack is included with the collection.

The collection's accompanying artwork lists Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the Game Boy Color title that offers an alternate take on the original Metal Gear Solid story, as "bonus content." Ghost Babel is not counted among the collection's main entries on the graphic, leaving the playable status and implementation of that title unclear pending further details.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is due to launch for PlayStation 5 on 27 August. Konami has not yet confirmed additional platforms, pricing or preorder details. Further specifics on Ghost Babel and platform parity are expected to follow in the lead-up to release.

The inclusion of Metal Gear Solid 4 marks a notable moment for the franchise. Long held back by PlayStation 3 exclusivity and the technical hurdles of the PS3's Cell architecture, Guns of the Patriots had been inaccessible to many players on modern systems until this announcement. The new collection answers persistent calls from the community for a contemporary release of that entry.
