Housemarque's upcoming Saros, showcased during PlayStation's State of Play, will allow players to teleport directly to unlocked biomes, a marked departure from the structure of Returnal. The studio retains core rogue mechanics from its previous title while expanding permanent progression and social interaction systems.
The trailer highlights The Passage, a persistent hub where survivors can be met and engaged between runs. The team demonstrated a larger cast of characters to interact with and a broader slate of permanent unlocks that persist across attempts.
Difficulty customisation was emphasised: players can toggle individual abilities on or off to make runs harder or easier, with Housemarque stressing the importance of balance. The ability to teleport straight to previously unlocked biomes removes the need to replay earlier sections solely to reach specific areas.
Housemarque also outlined elements of Saros's eclipse system. Eclipses can be activated manually, altering the world's visuals and audio, and increasing enemy strength and damage. These events also grant beneficial outcomes, creating risk/reward choices for players who opt to trigger them.
Saros is scheduled for release on 30 April. Details were reported by Game Informer.
