Konami has announced Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, a new sidescrolling entry in the long-running series, during PlayStation's State of Play. The title is being developed in partnership with indie studios Motion Twin and Evil Empire and is scheduled to launch in 2026.
Motion Twin and Evil Empire are best known for their work on Dead Cells. Motion Twin led development on Dead Cells while Evil Empire assisted with post-launch updates; the teams also collaborated on a Castlevania-themed expansion for Dead Cells in recent years. Konami, the original creator of Castlevania, is overseeing the project.
Belmont's Curse is a 2D, sidescrolling entry that places the narrative 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, which released for the NES in 1989. The announcement arrives as the franchise reaches its 40th anniversary.
The new game leans on the Metroidvania lineage that helped define both Castlevania and Dead Cells, promising a return to the series' side‑scrolling roots after a long absence from 2D entries. No full platform list or release window beyond 2026 was provided during the State of Play presentation.
