RGG Studio boss Masayoshi Yokoyama has indicated that Yakuza Kiwami 3 will be the last entry in the studio's Kiwami remake strand. The team, which has spent years modernising classic Yakuza / Like a Dragon titles, is preparing to pivot to different kinds of projects after this release.
- Yokoyama publicly stated that the Kiwami remake line will end with the third instalment rather than continue to a fourth.
- The Kiwami series has been responsible for bringing older entries up to date, following the earlier Kiwami and Kiwami 2 remakes.
- Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties launches on 12 February and represents the newest effort to refresh the franchise for modern audiences.
- RGG hinted that future work could take the franchise in a new direction — potentially a different series or reboot approach rather than more Kiwami-style remakes.
- The studio has balanced keeping Kazuma Kiryu’s story alive while also introducing newer protagonists like Ichiban Kasuga across recent Like a Dragon entries.
