Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will launch on Nintendo's Switch 2 on 3 June, according to reporting from Game Informer. The announcement follows the recent Switch 2 release of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Rebirth is the second instalment in the Remake trilogy. Where Final Fantasy VII Remake concentrated on the party's time in Midgar, Rebirth expands the scope: the group escapes the city and traverses several sprawling, open biomes across the Planet. The narrative continues the party's flight from Shinra and its pursuit of Sephiroth, while also including flashback sequences featuring Zack Fair.

Gameplay evolves from the first game with larger exploration-based areas and a range of new systems. The release adds multiple mini-games, notably the Queen's Blood card battler and a piano mini-game that allows players to experiment with music or perform tracks from the game's soundtrack.

The Switch 2 release date is 3 June. Further coverage and the original report are available via Game Informer.
