Blizzard announced it is dropping the "2" and will once again call the game Overwatch as part of a major update arriving Feb. 10. The first season of the year-long Reign of Talon campaign brings five new heroes, role-specific passive sub-roles, and a slate of gameplay updates unveiled at Overwatch Spotlight 2026.

  • Five new characters launch with Season 1 next week, kicking off a plan to introduce one hero per season throughout 2026.
  • New sub-roles add passive bonuses that more clearly separate Tank, Damage, and Support playstyles, aiming to strengthen each class identity.
  • Domina, a new Tank, focuses on area control with a segmented hard-light barrier, mid-to-long-range offense, and crowd-control tools that can stun enemies against obstacles; her kit includes an ability that restores shields when she damages foes.
  • Blizzard says its hero development pipeline has sped up, targeting a total of 10 new heroes this year and promising accompanying map additions, character reworks, and quality-of-life improvements each season.
