id Software has marked its 35th year in the games industry with a short celebratory video and a promise of more to come in 2026. Studio director Marty Stratton and game director Hugo Martin appear in the clip to thank what they call the “best fans in the world” and to say, plainly, “We’ve got much more in store.”

The video, posted to the developer’s social channels, frames the milestone as both a moment of gratitude and a hint at future activity rather than a retrospective alone. No concrete projects or release dates were confirmed in the message, which leaned on appreciation for long-term support from the community.

Founded in 1991 by John Carmack, John Romero, Tom Hall and Adrian Carmack, id Software is widely credited with defining the first-person shooter genre. Groundbreaking releases such as Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM and Quake established technical and design standards that continue to influence modern shooters. Recent entries in the DOOM franchise, including DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal (2020), reinforced the studio’s reputation for fast, aggressive gameplay and technical polish.

id Software joined ZeniMax Media in 2009 and became part of Microsoft’s wider portfolio following ZeniMax’s acquisition in 2021. Despite changes in ownership, the studio’s core identity and focus on high-intensity action titles have remained consistent.

The 35th anniversary presentation emphasised fan appreciation and teased further announcements for the year ahead without divulging specifics. The studio’s brief message underlined continuity: a long history of influential games and an intent to keep building on that legacy as 2026 progresses.

Reporting on the anniversary was first carried by Push Square, which covered the studio’s video and comments from Stratton and Martin.
