Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that the Switch 2 port is already in a playable state and the team is focused on optimisation and polishing. Speaking to Polygon, he said fans shouldn't have to wait long for a formal update on progress.
- The Switch 2 build of Rebirth has been completed and is currently being refined rather than developed from scratch.
- Current work is centred on optimisation and polish to ensure the game runs well on Nintendo's next‑gen handheld/console.
- Square Enix has previously indicated Rebirth on Switch 2 aims to match the gameplay experience found on other platforms.
- Hamaguchi signalled a status report should arrive in the near term, suggesting an official announcement could be expected relatively soon.
