Marathon launches 5 March

Bungie has confirmed that Marathon, the studio’s multiplayer extraction shooter, will launch on 5 March for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. A new trailer accompanying the announcement sets the official release date and showcases the game’s PvPvE extraction gameplay on the hostile world of Tau Ceti IV.

First revealed in May 2023, Marathon was originally scheduled to arrive in September 2025 but was delayed following a rocky Alpha test reception. The title also attracted controversy earlier in its development over alleged similarities in art direction; that dispute has since been resolved, according to Bungie.

Marathon places players in control of bio-cybernetic characters known as Runners, who must scavenge resources from the surface of Tau Ceti IV while fending off rival player-controlled Runners and in-game security forces. The extraction loop emphasises risk-versus-reward decision-making, with players aiming to escape with valuable loot after fighting both human opponents and hostile NPCs.

The studio has revealed an extensive voice cast for Marathon. Headline performers include Samantha Béart, Jennifer English, Ben Starr and Neil Newbon. Other credited actors are Krizia Bajos, Beau Bridgland, Ry Chase, Roger Clark, Darin De Paul, Dave Fennoy, Nika Futterman, Morla Gorrondona, Reina Guthrie, Donnla Hughes, Keston John, Sohm Kapila, Rich Keeble, Elliot Knight, Erica Lindbeck, Piotr Michael, Brent Mukai, Ariana Nicole George, Emily O'Brien, Lee Shorten, Jason Spisak, JB Tadena, Fred Tatasciore, Craig Lee Thomas, Elias Toufexis, Oliver Vaquer, Scott Whyte, Tracy Wiles and Erin Yvette.

Bungie will sell Marathon in two editions. The Standard Edition is listed at $39.99 and the Deluxe Edition at $59.99, equivalent to approximately £32 and £48 respectively. Both editions will receive ongoing content updates, including new maps, Runner shells and in-game events.

Pre-order incentives for the Standard Edition include cosmetic items such as the Zero Step 004 CE Tactical Sidearm Style, the Zero Step RC Weapon Charm and the Zero Step Shift Weapon Sticker. Pre-orders are appearing at major UK retailers including GAME and Amazon UK ahead of the 5 March launch.

The new trailer provides the most complete look yet at Marathon’s extraction mechanics, environment design and tone. Further details on post-launch support and the full contents of the Deluxe Edition are expected from Bungie in the coming weeks.
