Double Fine has announced Kiln, a multiplayer pottery party brawler developed during the studio's internal game jam, Amnesia Fortnight. The reveal came during Xbox's Developer Direct, where the studio outlined core modes, shape-based combat and plans for a pre-launch beta.
Kiln centres on creative construction and competitive destruction. Players sculpt pots using a variety of shaping tools and detection systems that identify specific forms — bowls, cups and plates among them — then bring those creations into chaotic arena combat. Each shape carries distinct movement and a unique special attack; plates, for example, can fling pies.
Quench, one of the modes showcased, tasks players with carrying water to opponents' kilns with the aim of dousing them and securing victory. Arena layouts vary from dance floors to ancient ruins, with lanes and routes that afford small advantages to particular shapes. The game draws loose comparisons to MOBA-style objective play and arcade-style shooters such as Splatoon, while retaining a distinctive, whimsical identity.
Kiln supports run, jump and attack mechanics once creations enter the arena, and offers an array of sculpting options so players can customise both form and function. Maps include multiple pathways, some accessible only to specific shapes, encouraging strategic choice during the build phase.
Double Fine confirmed Kiln will launch in spring 2026 on PlayStation, Xbox and PC. The studio plans to host a beta ahead of release; specific dates and platforms for the test have not yet been announced. Beta sign-ups are being handled via Double Fine's official website.
