Battlefield Studios has pushed back Battlefield 6’s Season 2 by a month to allow additional polish, and will use the extra time to queue a major new map for Battlefield Labs. The move gives the developer room to iterate on content in a live testing environment before full deployment.
The Studios confirmed that a large-scale map will arrive in Labs soon, marking the first sizeable addition to the game in months. The map is being trialled in the experimental Labs mode, which has become the primary channel for previewing and refining maps, modes and balance changes with the player base.
Alongside that rollout, a notable legacy map is also making its way into Battlefield 6 via Labs. Golmud Railway, originally featured in Battlefield 4 and well known for its wide-open spaces and vehicle-focused layout, has been ported for testing. The Golmud Railway port will allow players to experience a familiar Battlefield layout within BF6’s current sandbox and will provide valuable feedback on how classic map design translates to the new engine and systems.
Battlefield Labs will act as the staging ground for adjustments ahead of Season 2, giving developers data and player responses to inform final tuning. The delay to Season 2 was framed as an opportunity to ensure the update meets the team’s quality standards rather than rushing content out.
The combination of a fresh, large-scale map trial and the return of a storied Battlefield map signals a dual approach: push new content while leaning on proven designs to keep the multiplayer experience varied during the rollout cycle.
